Residence Permit as an EU Citizen's Family Member

Spouses, children and other family members of EU citizens residing in Latvia are entitled to a residence permit. We help gather documents and complete the PMLP procedure.

EU Directive 2004/38/EC grants family members of EU citizens the right to reside in any EU country where the citizen lives. If your spouse, parent or adult child is an EU citizen residing in Latvia, you may obtain a residence permit as a family member.

This ground differs from a standard residence permit: it does not require proof of Latvian language proficiency and has a number of other distinct features. It is important to select the correct category and compile the full document set at the first attempt — that is exactly what we help with.

Required documents

  • Document confirming your family member's EU citizenship (EU passport)
  • Proof of the EU citizen's residence in Latvia
  • Documents confirming kinship (marriage certificate, birth certificate etc.)
  • Your valid passport
  • Medical insurance for the period of application review
  • Proof of sufficient income or dependency
